IMPORTANT:

ARRANGE TO HAVE SOMEONE PICK YOU UP FROM THE HOSPITAL
AND STAY WITH YOU AT HOME UNTIL YOU CAN MANAGE ON YOUR OWN.

When is my first postoperative appointment? Where is the appointment?

As soon as you get home, contact YOUR SURGEON'S OFFICE and make an appointment for your first follow-up visit: Dr. Younger, Dr. Wing, Dr. Kalla or Dr. Chalmers. Your follow-up appointments will be at the Foot & Ankle Clinic, at St. Vincent's Hospital (Heather site). The appointment should be made for 2 weeks (approximately) after surgery.

What do I need to bring to my first follow-up appointment at the Foot and Ankle Clinic?

Bring the Walker Boot with you if you have a cast.

Your sutures will be removed. Your Walker Boot will be put on. You will be directed by the doctor to a physiotherapist if you need one. You will be wearing your Walker Boot or Postoperative shoe 24 hours per day except for bathing, and performing range of motion exercises (to be done twice a day to move the joints in the foot).

Donate the Boot

If, after surgery, you no longer need your Walker Boot, consider donating it to the BC Foot and Ankle Clinic. There are others who would benefit from the Boot as some patients cannot afford to purchase one.
